i have been feeling rather gloomy of late. meeting up with friends has been good. and i really treasure these moments, knowing that as one by one starts working, such opportunities would rarely, if not never, come by again. but then again, my job hunt is turning me into a smileless fellow.
i really would want to work for the civil service, dedicating my services to the nation. call me a patriot but i truly do want to contribute to the country. but it seems, the civil service doesnt want me. some people said i look like a civil servant. some people said i am the type of person the civil service wants. apparently "some people" is wrong.
who is "some" anyway?
we often hear "they say this..." and "they say that...". who the heck is "they"??? nobody knows, apparently.
i guess, since after applying to so many different ministries and positions, nothing seems to be working, it's time i look towards the private sector. but then again, unemployment rate's increasing (it is now at a 10-year high), and employment numbers are rising at a slower rate. economists say this is a telltale sign that the economic slowdown has seeped into "reality". and news reports that it is harder for fresh graduates to look for jobs, said one economist from a foreign bank.
do you know how gloomy such news are when you read them, especially when you realise that you belong to the group that is mentioned in the news? and how much it helps when you received a letter on the same day telling you "thank you for your application but you have just been rejected". oh, and i quote the letter "we regret to inform you that we are unable to consider your application favourably." ouch.
i really need to take some time to chew over what our graduation speaker said during our convocation last saturday, that we do not look for a job immediately but think about what we like to do, and then pursue that as our career. only then can we find satisfaction in our jobs, and not be reduced into mechanical paycheck-drawing workers who have no life.
as bon jovi sang "it's my life", and as debbie gibson sang "you only live once",
i say, "the world's a pack of fries, upsize it and eat as much as you can!"
